Intersectoral Policies for Reducing Inequalities

In the face of complex challenges — such as those the Urban Circuit invites us to reflect on through its theme “Facing Urban Challenges: Pathways to Just and Sustainable Cities” — the need for a synergistic approach among various actors and sectors becomes evident. This articulation is essential for building viable pathways in an interdisciplinary, interprofessional, and intersectoral manner, with the goal of promoting shared and integrated solutions aligned with our collective aspirations for a fairer, healthier, and more sustainable city. The CEPEDOC–Healthy Cities, a Collaborating Center of the World Health Organization, has systematically coordinated several projects in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the Pan American Health Organization. Among its actions are the development of research, guides, recommendations, and continuing education courses aimed at providing technical support for participatory and collaborative intersectoral actions, programs, and policies to reduce urban inequalities. Yet, an important reflection remains: how can research results and the tools produced be better utilized by public managers? How can they contribute to forming participatory intersectoral partnerships and strategies, while ensuring the monitoring and evaluation of what is done, how it is done, and what results are truly achieved? These are the reflections we intend to deepen with the event’s participants.
