Across the Global South, Indigenous women are developing community-based responses to housing insecurity, climate vulnerability and social exclusion, yet their experiences remain underrepresented in global urban development discussions. IDESMULH, a Honduran Indigenous women's organization with consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and a member of the Global South NGO Platform (GSNP), proposes an in-person side event for World Cities Day 2026 in Fuzhou, China. Drawing on the experiences of Lenca women in Honduras, the session will explore how Indigenous knowledge, women's leadership and collective community action contribute to more inclusive, resilient and sustainable human settlements. The discussion will highlight community initiatives for protection, care and social well-being, alongside the challenges Indigenous and rural women face in accessing adequate housing, climate finance and meaningful participation in decision-making. Coordinated and moderated by Sandra Rosaura Cerrato Flores, Executive Director of IDESMULH, the proposed dialogue will seek to include two additional representatives from the Global South NGO Platform, subject to confirmation. The session aims to connect local experiences with international solutions for inclusive urban regeneration and adequate housing for all.
