Identity and Cultural Heritage in Rio de Janeiro is outskirts

In Rio de Janeiro, the North Zone is a territory of cultural resistance. However, a logic that disparages its environments has become part of Rio’s society, noticeably through the lack of public policies in the area.

A multidisciplinary view of the area has been built as a response to the demand for actions that are amplifiable, show the potency of their daily life, arouse different perceptions of their surrounding environment and are able to cause a transformation both in the relationship between the individual and the city and between the individual and the place they live in.

The webinar will analyze primarily what is cultural heritage from the point of view of the identities of outskirts’ dwellers and the tools to amplify its potency. Secondarily, we will touch upon the changes that affect the productive chains in the outskirts during the COVID-19 pandemic, considering the context of collective activities and uses of public space.
