The event “Housing and Climate Justice: The Case of Residencial Edgar Gayoso” will present one of the largest housing complexes in Teresina (PI), located in a peripheral and vulnerable area of the Northeastern semi-arid region. The initiative seeks to discuss the impacts of standardized housing policies on vulnerable populations, particularly when local territorial and climatic specificities are not considered.
Drawing on data regarding socio-spatial inequality, urban segregation, and climate change, the panel will highlight experiences of social innovation, citizen participation, and collaborative methodologies developed within the “Alliance for Edgar Gayoso” — a living urban laboratory connecting the university, community leadership, and public authorities.
The online roundtable will feature thematic presentations, technical commentary, and a discussion circle with the audience, fostering dialogue between urban justice, adequate housing, and climate adaptation in peripheral territories. The event aims to broaden public debate on creating more just, inclusive, and resilient cities, aligned with the SDGs and the New Urban Agenda.
