Healthy Parks Healthy Cities Statement Release – World Cities Day 2020

It is recognized that in the next 40 years, urban populations are expected to grow by more than 2 billion people, resulting in around two-thirds of all people living in cities by 2050. Therefore, the challenge of society to meet the growing pressure of modern urban development across the world is immense. The recent global COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the essential role parks and open spaces play by allowing people in cities to recreate safely, seek nature and relieve stress during these unusual times. The World Urban Parks Association recognises that parks, open space and urban nature play a unique and significant role creating healthy cities, healthy people and healthy societies.
The World Urban Parks calls upon all city leaders and park managers around the world to take action and consider the important role that parks play in creating healthy cities and communities.
