Habitat Dialogue 2026 – Housing for All, organised as part of Urban October 2026 on 5 October 2026 (World Habitat Day), is a one-day academic and knowledge-sharing programme focused on contemporary housing challenges and the need for adequate, inclusive and accessible housing in Indian cities. The programme seeks to bring together students, faculty members, practitioners, experts and other stakeholders to discuss housing as a fundamental component of sustainable urban development. The programme will begin with a field-based learning experience, “Tracing Tradition: A Site Visit to Chathamangalam Pottery Settlement,” providing participants with an opportunity to understand traditional settlement patterns, vernacular housing, local livelihoods, spatial character and cultural heritage. This will be followed by the inauguration of a Housing Exhibition showcasing student work, housing studies and related academic outputs. Two expert sessions will form the core of the dialogue. The first, “Adequate Housing for All,” will examine the global housing agenda and its relevance to the Indian urban context. The second, “Rethinking Housing in Indian Cities,” will explore issues of affordability, accessibility, inclusion and emerging housing challenges. An open discussion will provide an interactive platform for students, faculty, experts and participants to exchange perspectives and experiences.
