Climate change is increasingly affecting cities and communities, reinforcing the need to rethink housing, urban planning, and the quality of the environments in which people live. Adequate housing also involves access to healthy environments, shared spaces, social ties, and opportunities for meaningful participation in community life.As part of Urban October 2026, CCD HIS SP Pit Stop welcomes Débora Leite, who will give the lecture “From the Global South to Brazil: The Socio-environmental Dimension of Housing Challenges and the Right to Housing.” The event is dedicated to dialogue, the exchange of experiences, and the presentation of analyses of different contexts and situations in strengthening adequate housing in the Global South, with challenges and real cases shown through “before and after” photographic records. The discussion will also extend to the international context, exploring how housing policies work in other countries of the Global South. Selected UN-Habitat initiatives in Latin America and Africa aimed at building capacity for technical assistance in social housing will also be presented. The lecture will be followed by a moderated discussion with the audience, creating a space for dialogue on housing, territorial policies and more inclusive and resilient communities. The event will be held in a hybrid format and in Portuguese.
