Virtual dialogue organized by the UN-Habitat Andean Countries Hub (ROLAC) within the framework of Urban October 2026, commemorating World Habitat Day and World Cities Day, to be held on 27 October 2026. The event brings together three experiences in integrated solid waste management from Colombia and Bolivia: Tumaco, Pasto, and the municipalities of Colcapirhua and Sacaba. Through a moderated conversation, panelists will examine how the social, cultural and territorial characteristics of each context determine the way waste is collected, recovered and decided upon. The discussion will address collection in stilt-house neighborhoods of Tumaco, located in mangrove areas beyond the reach of conventional services; the role of waste pickers in the collection system of Pasto, an Andean city; and waste management in growing intermediate municipalities within a metropolitan area in Bolivia. The session will include an opening presentation, a three-round moderated conversation among the panelists, a contribution from UN-Habitat and closing remarks. The activity is intended for municipal, departmental and national authorities of Bolivia and Colombia, international cooperation agencies, and the general public interested in inclusive, territorially grounded waste management. It seeks to promote the exchange of lessons and good practices adaptable to other territories.
