FABER Forum 2026, taking place from 29–31 October at Vila 31 × Art Explora in Tirana, marks the fifth edition of the Forum for Active Built Environment Research. Under the theme “Legacy,” the Forum explores how architecture, cities, and cultural spaces inherit, reinterpret, and shape the traces of the past. Rather than treating legacy as something fixed, FABER 2026 approaches it as an ongoing process: a negotiation between memory and transformation, preservation and reinvention, history and future. The programme brings together architects, urbanists, artists, researchers, policymakers and other practitioners to examine how the built environment reflects collective memory while continuously producing new forms of cultural and social meaning. The choice of Vila 31 × Art Explora as the setting reinforces this inquiry. A site undergoing transformation into a public cultural space, it offers a compelling case for considering how places acquire new meanings without entirely abandoning their histories. Through lectures, discussions and interdisciplinary exchanges, FABER 2026 creates a space for critical reflection on what societies choose to preserve, what they transform and what they leave for future generations. The Forum ultimately asks not only what constitutes a legacy, but who has the authority to define it.
