Every Drop Counts: São José dos Campos expands its used cooking oil reverse logistics program Activity Description: The City of São José dos Campos and URBAM expand the municipal used cooking oil reverse logistics program, operated by Captóleo and established through a public call (Chamamento Público nº 001/2026). Launched on September 9 with 17 Ecopontos (public collection points), the program now activates 15 new Ecopontos and aims to reach 120 Ecopontos citywide. The activity brings environmental education directly to the community: at the Captóleo Tent, residents learn how to correctly deliver used cooking oil, why it matters (one liter of oil can contaminate up to 25,000 liters of water), and how to use the program's app, which lets them track their impact and receive a benefit for every liter delivered. All oil collected is traced through São Paulo State's official waste tracking system (SIGOR/CETESB) and receives a Final Destination Certificate, becoming feedstock for biofuel production. The program links urban waste management, water protection, circular economy and community participation, contributing to SDGs 6 (Clean Water), 11 (Sustainable Cities), 12 (Responsible Consumption) and 13 (Climate Action) and to the New Urban Agenda.
