Nothing defines Stanford White, partner of McKim, Mead and White, and the master of classical architecture and interior design, as much as his ornamental detail, including some of the most distinctive sites of the Village. White employed decorative motifs with such flair, and drew on so great a range of ideas. In his newest book, author, architect, and White’s great-grandson Samuel G. White examines the decorative web of wood, marble, metal, and tile that was his ancestor’s signature.
