On World Cities Day 2026, under the theme “Regenerating the City: Adequate Housing for All,” Taller 2-12 will host a public conversation from Manta, Ecuador, on El Niño 2026 and the urban conditions that shape climate risk in coastal cities. The discussion will address four questions: What does current evidence tell us about El Niño? How do land use, watersheds, drainage and infrastructure shape exposure? What do Manta and Portoviejo reveal about the vulnerabilities of coastal urbanization? And what minimum preventive agenda can local governments and communities advance? By connecting climate information with housing, essential services, neighborhood improvement and urban planning, we will discuss how strengthening existing neighborhoods can contribute to more inclusive and climate-resilient cities. The event aims to make evidence accessible, distinguish what is known from what remains uncertain, and identify practical priorities for prevention. Organized by Taller 2-12 as part of its Espacios de Reflexión program. Saturday, 31 October 2026, at 17:00 Ecuador time, in Manta, with a live online broadcast. Venue to be confirmed.
