Ecological Transformation – New paradigms of architecture and urbanism

The shift to a new paradigm requires a prior action which is the necessary and genuine understanding that climate collapse is imminent; that humanity is no longer dealing only with sporadic and isolated events; that the effects of human activities have raised the planet’s temperature to such an extent that polar ice sheets are melting, sea levels are rising, and countless species of animals and plants are becoming extinct; and above all, soil exhaustion, large-scale droughts that directly affect crops, desertification, intensive deforestation, among many other processes, are phenomena that directly impact all forms of life on Earth (NEIS; SILVA, 2022). There is already a broad scientific consensus indicating that the impacts of climate change are a reflection of governmental decisions, and that they are felt every day, in one or several places around the globe. Hence the importance of these periodic gatherings of international authorities. The risks of a development model still far more capitalist than sustainable make clear the limits and consequences of social practices, bringing with them a new element: reflexivity. In other words, society, as the producer of risks, becomes increasingly reflexive, generating risks for itself. Conceptualizing “risks” thus becomes strategic for understanding the characteristics, limits, and transformations that must guide collective and individual ways of life...
