Climate Justice for People and Nature through Urban Ecosystem-based Adaptation | Webinar and Technical Paper Launch

Ecosystems can greatly improve the liveability of our increasingly urbanised world. Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) is an approach to conserve, restore and sustainably manage ecosystems and ecosystem services to reduce vulnerability to climate change. Ecosystems and their services can additionally deliver climate just outcomes, particularly in urban areas of the Global South. In August 2021, FEBA’s Urban EbA WG published the joint technical paper ‘Climate Justice for people and nature through urban Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA): A focus on the Global South’. The paper, co-authored by PlanAdapt, Stockholm Environment Institute, The International Rainwater Harvesting Alliance, Global Adaptation Network, and IUCN: 1) gathers practical examples of urban EbA interventions from around the world with a focus on the Global South; and 2) explores their links with seven EbA Social Principles related to climate justice. Join actors at the global and local level for this opportunity to learn more about the seven EbA social principles, their relationship to existing EbA Qualification Criteria and Quality Standards and the Global Standard on Nature-based Solutions and to learn from practitioners how the principles are implemented in EbA interventions on-the-ground.
