The city we want: for eldery people

The “Series of Dialogues” created by the group ODS RN [Group for the SDGs from the Brazilian State of Rio Grande do Norte], is intended to reflect on the spaces of the cities and communities, aiming at providing best practices that collaborate with the sustainable development and improvement during the emergency of the pandemic.

According to data from the United Nations, the world is entering an accelerated process of aging. On the Brazilian population the same tendency is observed, according to IBGE [Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística // Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics]. Thus, for the first time in the history of humankind we will have more elderly than children so we believe it is important to think about them.

It is necessary to think about their accessibility to basic services, to the labor market, to information on their rights. We must think about measures aimed at preventing violence and isolation to affect such group. In doing so we will be reducing inequalities while strengthening the creation of more inclusive and resilient communities and acting in cooperation to offer solutions to the current challenges.
