Cities for Peace and Democracy

On World Cities Day, the Catalunya Europa Foundation wants to talk about the responses of local governments to big challenges, such as in this case war conflicts, through city-to-city cooperation. In the context of the war in the Balkans, with the European States paralyzed in the face of a European war, Barcelona emerged and led a solidarity movement of Catalan cities with Bosnia, symbolized by the link with Sarajevo. Thirty years later, war returns to Europe, but the role of cities is not the same. In addition, conflicts that have never been fully resolved are resurfacing, such as in the Middle East between Palestine and Israel, which historically has moved the solidarity of many Catalan municipalities. In this context, which is the role of cities now? Have priorities changed because the EU has also taken on a different role? What do city networks do in this context?
