“BUILDING WITH SCARCE RESOURCES: AGAINST HUNGER FOR HOUSING IN AFRICA” - JULIAN SALAS PHD

On Thursday, October 6, on the occasion of the commemoration of World Habitat Day, the presentation of the book “BUILDING WITH SCARCE RESOURCES: AGAINST HUNGER FOR HOUSING IN AFRICA” will take place in the auditorium of the Eduardo Torroja Institute of Human Sciences. the construction Dr. Salas carried out a dozen projects executed in Africa during the 2005-2015 decade, which have worthy characteristics to be highlighted, for the achievements obtained by providing Basic Habitability to more than 10,000 African citizens and having built schools for more of 3,000 boys and girls. Humble sample buttons facing the plethora of needs suffered by Mauritania, Mozambique, Angola, Chad, Mali... The text highlights the importance that the author attaches to the training of native labor; to the search for appropriate and appropriate local materials; the use of 'local' production teams; to the adequacy of construction processes; trying to do without, whenever possible, imported solutions. The work strives to provide the reader with the foundations of African architecture and urbanism, trying to materialize expressions –not at all ethereal– coined and used during executions such as: “hungry for housing”; “basic habitability”; “building case by case and house by house”; “seeking more for less”…
