The event proposed by Insper Cidades, titled “Advances and Challenges for Implementing Social Housing in Metropolitan Cities,” focuses on investigating how metropolitan areas in Brazil address the challenge of promoting social housing in consolidated urban areas, using the concept of the methodology for assessing normative receptivity to Social Housing (HIS) and broadening the debate beyond major metropolises. Planned as a hybrid panel, with in-person activities at Insper in São Paulo and online streaming, the event will adopt a comparative analysis approach, bringing together a diverse set of national experiences. The cases of municipalites of the state of São Paulo will be presented: - Ribeirão Preto (SP): will discuss the potential for social housing in its central area. - Baixada Santista: will present alternative solutions for social housing production in a land-scarce scenario, featuring experiences from São Vicente (SP) and Cubatão (SP). - São José do Rio Preto (SP): will detail bureaucratic and financial obstacles to social housing development in consolidated urban areas. In addition to this, the Metropolitan Agency of the Belo Horizonte Metropolitan Region will elevate the discussion to a regional scale, presenting the reality of metropolitan municipalities in Minas Gerais and their Metropolitan Plan for Social Housing. The session will be moderated by the Arq. Futuro Laboratory – Insper Cidades.
