Urban October 2025 Event: “Youth Resilience Building through a Consortium of Planning Education Network (U-RECOPE 2025)” Theme: Coastal City Hazards and Resilience Date: October 23, 2025 (Thursday) Time: 9:15 AM – 12:30 PM Venue: Department of Architecture and Planning, National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) Background Urban October, an initiative supported by UN-Habitat, is celebrated globally to promote inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities. The 2025 themes - Urban Crisis Response and People-Centred Smart Cities - focus on addressing the challenges of urban resilience, climate change, and equitable recovery. In this context, the Department of Architecture and Planning, NIT Calicut is organizing a collaborative event titled “Youth Resilience Building through a Consortium of Planning Education Network (U-RECOPE 2025)”. The event seeks to create a platform for collective dialogue among academic institutions, local government bodies, NGOs, professional organizations, and the community to discuss coastal city hazards, resilience strategies, and sustainable development approaches in Kerala’s coastal regions - particularly with reference to Kozhikode and other coastal urban centres. Objective To initiate a multi-stakeholder dialogue on the resilience of Kerala’s coastal cities facing challenges from sea-level rise, erosion, flooding, and climate-induced urban stresses. To strengthen academic and community partnerships for urban resilience and sustainable coastal development. To promote youth engagement and academic collaboration in planning education through the proposed consortium network (U-RECOPE). To discuss people-centred planning approaches that integrate local knowledge, data-driven methods, and participatory governance. Participants The event will bring together representatives from: Academic Institutions: NIT Calicut, CET Trivandrum, TKM College of Engineering, and GEC Thrissur Government Departments and Agencies: Local Self Government Department (LSGD), Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA), and Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA) NGOs, Civil Society Groups, and Local Associations from Kozhikode and nearby regions working in coastal management, urban development, environment, and social welfare Media Representatives and professionals involved in community outreach and urban communication Students, Researchers, and Planners interested in Kerala’s coastal resilience
