As African cities confront rising climate risks, infrastructure gaps, rapid urbanization, and growing demands for housing and services, this session examines how cities can move from planning to implementation. Bringing together city leaders, national policymakers, development partners, academia, and financial institutions, the discussion will focus on the practical actions required to build urban resilience while supporting economic growth and social inclusion. The session will explore how cities can mobilize finance for resilient infrastructure, integrate climate considerations into urban planning, strengthen local institutions, and leverage data-driven decision-making. Speakers will share lessons from ongoing urban development and resilience initiatives, highlighting opportunities to scale successful approaches in areas such as affordable housing, sustainable mobility, disaster risk reduction, and climate adaptation. Particular attention will be given to the role of local governments in delivering transformative change and to the partnerships needed between municipalities, national governments, the private sector, and international organizations to create resilient, livable, and future-ready cities.
