From Vulnerability to Vitality Building Resilient Towns in Meghalaya

Meghalaya’s towns face a convergence of environmental, infrastructural, and socio-economic pressures that undermine their long-term viability. Climatic variability—rising heat, erratic rainfall and landslides—intensifies flooding, disrupts services and endangers public health. Simultaneously, rapid urbanisation, ageing infrastructure and resource scarcity constrain water supply, mobility and digital connectivity, placing marginalised and peri-urban communities at greatest risk. Building resilient towns therefore demands holistic strategies that integrate physical safeguards, robust governance, economic vitality and social cohesion. In this context, the Centre for Policy is hosting a roundtable to convene policymakers, scholars, civil society representatives and sector experts to discuss the most pressing habitat challenges facing Meghalaya's towns, review initiatives underway to address them, and discuss pathways for future, inclusive action and resilient planning.
