Urban Planning: Health promotion in cities

The “Healthy Cities” movement developed by the World Health Organization, aimed at establishing urban public policies, which improve the quality of life, with emphasis on intersectoral approach and social participation. But after all, what are healthy cities and how important are they in the general urban context? The event, conducted by urban planners and a forest engineer, focuses on establishing urban planning as a strategic tool for promoting urban health, contextualizing and debating the importance of systematic, continuous and intersectoral planning linked to socio-environmental policies. Legislative weaknesses, inconsistency and inapplicability of rules and guidelines will be presented, as well as examples of successful application of procedures to encourage urban health, debating and devising solutions.
