Open Streets Jinja

Opens Streets Jinja will be a half Day activity hosted along a closed 400 meters Jinja Main Street open to pedestrians, cyclists, city enthusiasts, artists, scatters, and the general public. Among other activities will include; hosting of online meetings (sessions) with state and not state actors cycling in an enclosed 400 meters along main street, book reading, some exhibitions of Art, skipping ropes, scatting, street soccer, etc.
Outcomes:
- Improved infrastructural development, housing and human settlement with urban and Physical Planning opportunities for citizens in highly urbanizing zones (Cities, Municipalities & Town Councilslike Jinja) with a smart city and sustainable communities concept.
- Open streets Jinja enabling NMT Policy through Critical mass Open Street campaign activities to demonstrate the need to align designing for safety, accessibility and comfort in growing towns and cities.
- Recognition the role of CSOs (including UNUF) in policy planning, research support and technical competence in implementation of policies leading to universal design principles that ensure there is appropriate pedestrian access for everyone, including the elderly, children and PWDs, including mobility problems and visual impairment,
- Local Government in implementing the NMT policy and to further guide its implementing agencies/authorities to generate synergy design and in performing its mandate to achieve common objective in city development.
- Inclusive planning in Cities though implementation of Open Streets in their own towns by demonstrating the need for opening streets to the people for walk and cycle.
- Provide for co-existence with natural environment as urban wetlands, forests and other green spaces for plants and animals, enabling livelihood in an unpolluted environment,
- Citizens participating in cultural and social events, leading to an equal citizen of their city with access to every service, regardless of ethnic origin, religion, income, gender or disability
