Cultivating a Culture of Urban Resilience is a youth-led initiative by the Nigerian Students for the Advancement of Sustainable Agriculture (NISASA), Mission High School, aimed at exploring how urban spaces can contribute to food security and environmental sustainability. As cities face challenges such as climate change, limited agricultural land, and rising food demand, innovative approaches to food production are increasingly important. This initiative seeks to inspire students and community members to rethink conventional farming and discover the potential of underutilised urban spaces. Through practical demonstrations of hydroponics, organic crop production, container gardening, and vertical farming, students will explore alternative ways to grow food in limited spaces. The project will also promote resource efficiency, creative reuse of suitable waste materials, and environmental responsibility. Beyond growing crops, the initiative aims to nurture innovation, sustainability, and resilience among young people through hands-on agricultural learning. By transforming a school space into a living agricultural laboratory, NISASA hopes to inspire households, schools, and communities to embrace urban agriculture as a practical pathway towards more sustainable, food-resilient cities.
