Tanzania commemorated World Habitat Day 2026 in Dodoma under the global theme “Adequate Housing for All,” bringing together Government, the United Nations, local authorities, development partners, civil society, academia, the private sector, communities and young people. The national observance highlighted adequate housing as a foundation for dignity, health, security, opportunity and inclusive development. Discussions addressed Tanzania’s rapid urbanization and the need to expand access to affordable housing, planned and serviced land, secure tenure, basic services and climate-resilient neighbourhoods. The event emphasized planning ahead for urban growth, providing housing solutions that respond to different income groups, and upgrading informal and underserved settlements while protecting livelihoods and minimizing displacement. It also highlighted the importance of partnerships among Government, communities, the private sector, financial institutions, development partners and the United Nations. The observance launched Tanzania’s Urban October 2026 activities and reinforced the call for inclusive, resilient and well-planned cities and human settlements.
