A series of global, comparative working sessions for practitioners will take place during Urban October 2026, aligned with UN-Habitat’s theme, "Regenerating the City: Adequate Housing for All." It will bring together curated groups of practitioners from Canada, Europe, India, New Zealand, and Australia for structured comparative dialogues, with three sessions held for each region between September and October 2026. The program examines neighbourhoods as complete systems through a rigorous analytical lens focused on gender. Each regional arc will follow a progression of three sessions centred around key themes: Housing and Tenure; Mobility, Access, and Climate; and Governance and Power. The specific focus of each session will vary based on the most relevant analytical issues in that regional context, resulting in five arcs that provide different perspectives on the same underlying questions. The first session will highlight the specific policy tensions that practitioners are navigating in each context. The second session will investigate the governance mechanisms that contribute to those tensions. Finally, the third working session will evaluate the findings in relation to actual policy contexts and translate them into regional recommendations. The series will run simultaneously across all four regions, and the findings will be compiled into a synthesis report.
