The event “First Cleaning Championship between Districts in Guinea-Bissau”, Bissau edition, emerged as a way to improve the issues with basic sanitation and waste treatment in the city, which makes it susceptible to an increase in COVID-19 cases.
This activity is coordinated with different actors and mediators and aims to promote the population taking ownership of the city is districts in order to act to solve the problems with urban cleaning and encourage future activities and actions in response to COVID-19.
The championship, opening on the World Cities Day (October 5th), will count with the participation of all districts of Bissau in competition on the weekends and will be supported by awareness-raising activities of wide dissemination throughout the country on radio and television, for instance. The closing will take place on October 31st, when the winning districts will receive their prizes.
