Decent Housing: From Paper to Reality. ATHIS and Promotion in Limeira, São Paulo

"Presented in a forum format, this event seeks to delve into the local implementation status of Federal Law No. 11,888/2008, which ensures the right of low-income families to receive ATHIS, which stands for Public Technical Assistance for Social Housing. This assistance is provided free of charge and includes support for the planning and construction of social housing. It is considered an integral component of the social right to housing. The event will feature five panelists and one mediator, divided into two roundtable discussions. It will conclude with an open public debate. The primary objective is to present the topic, drawing from the experiences of the municipality of Limeira in their efforts to promote ATHIS through the “Decent Housing” programme. This programme offers complimentary project designs and construction oversight, as well as support for autonomous home construction by the beneficiaries themselves. These initiatives are executed directly by the Housing Department or through partnerships and collaborations with entities such as universities, professional associations, the third sector, and the private sector. These collaborations facilitate the delivery of services and contribute to achieving Sustainable Development Goals 3, 11, and 17."
