Citizen participation in integrated urban planning processes is a growing concern among researchers and policymakers dedicated to making cities more democratic. As urban environments become more complex and interconnected, there's a heightened need to involve local communities and various stakeholders in exploring and developing solutions for common issues intensifies. However, there's a shortage of suitable and flexible planning processes and tools that can meet the specific needs of different planning phases and the unique contextual requirements of each case. Drawing from examples in Jaraguá do Sul, Blumenau, and extensive research on foreign cities, we will present strategies, tools, and processes aimed at engaging actors who have historically been overlooked or excluded from urban planning and development. The goal is to foster the creation of innovative territories.
