Climate anxiety has been gaining increasing attention in Brazil in light of the frequency and severity of extreme events across different regions. In the Legal Amazon, severe droughts and wildfires affect rivers, biodiversity, and traditional ways of life. In the South, historic floods and storms have caused deaths, economic losses, and forced displacement. This event will present unprecedented results from the population survey More Data, More Health – Legal Amazon, which reveal the vulnerability of marginalized groups in the face of climate anxiety and food insecurity. The program will also include a preview of the documentary Correnteza, by Helena Petta, on the 2024 climate disaster in Rio Grande do Sul. The proposal is to connect data and human narratives to show how climate anxiety cuts across territories and diverse contexts, providing the basis for a panel discussion on the importance of public managers using evidence to plan urban adaptation strategies that take into account local inequalities and the protection of the most exposed populations, such as riverine communities, Indigenous peoples, quilombolas, and urban peripheries.
