The GoDown Arts Centre HerCity HerStreets Street Improvement Project; Block 5 Minecraft Design Workshop

The GoDown has initiated the HerCity HerStreets Project. The project aims to improve the streets around the upcoming GoDown Arts Centre redevelopment, to make them safer and more inclusive public spaces, accommodating a diversity of shared commercial, social, and cultural activities. The HerCity HerStreets project involves the deployment of HerCity's methodology and toolkit of step-by-step activities involving data gathering, analysis and design. The Minecraft Workshop is a design activity that uses Minecraft as a participatory digital tool. Minecraft is very easy to learn even by people with no previous digital skills. UN-Habitat’s experiences from projects all over the world, including in informal settlements, show that almost anyone - young, old, educated or not educated can use Minecraft to start sketching digitally within a few hours. The HerCity HerStreets Project is part of The GoDown Transformation Project. The Transformation Project also involves the re-development of The GoDown property from an adaptive reuse arts centre into a modern Cultural Arts Complex comprising facilities for the performing and visual arts, as well as social, retail and hospitality amenities. This transformation shall enable The GoDown to continue to support artistic creativity while evolving into a civic-scale public space accessible to Nairobi’s diverse communities.
