UN-Habitat honourably joint the 20th Anniversary of the Community Organizations Development Institute (CODI) commemoration

27 October 2020, Bangkok – Commemorating the 20th Anniversary of the Community Organizations Development Institute (CODI), UN-Habitat Bangkok Office was honoured to take part in the proceedings including community exhibition, consultations with local leaders and former Prime Minister, Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, as well as, Awards Ceremony, acknowledging best practices across Thailand, officiated by Mr. Maitri Inthusut, Chair of the Board, CODI. Under the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the population in both urban and rural areas of Thailand has confronted and overcome significant challenges with support received from CODI.

Jointly celebrating World Habitat Day 2020 with the theme of “Housing for All: A better urban future”, the work of CODI over the past 20 years has helped to provide adequate shelter and housing being recognized as a fundamental human right and the foundation to prosperous lives and equitable societies. Through initiatives such as “Baan Mankong”, “Baan Por Pieng” and, many others providing citywide housing for all, community savings and loan initiatives, CODI is supporting over 2.7 million vulnerable and homeless in Thailand.
