Civil Law and Housing Access: suggestions for a better urban future

This event will discuss how civil law can contribute to the occupation and transformation of geographic space, emphasizing the COVID-19 impacts on effective access to housing. As a starting point to the discussion, there is a tension between the right to property with its projections in the urban scope through zoning laws and the irregular occupation of urban space for housing purposes both in the periphery and in the central regions. Specialists from different areas, suggesting that the problems existed, were already studying this. However, in 2020 new imbalances emerged in cities, bringing new challenges under the law. Thus, the fundamental right to housing and the impacts of new technologies on the reconfiguration of property rights will be analyzed.
