Amid a disconnected and accelerated urbanization process, cities of the Global South face challenges in making their environments increasingly accessible and sustainable.
Seeking ways to connect these environments and make them greener, the “Engenhando a Cidade” Project, created in 2019, has implemented several volunteer initiatives that have become success stories — such as the replanting of native trees in different areas of Ilha do Governador — fostering environmental awareness, especially among young people from communities surrounding Guanabara Bay, as well as university students, particularly from engineering and architecture programs.
This initiative has earned multiple awards and even inspired legislative proposals.
On the date of the event, a Workshop will be held based on the Engenhando a Cidade case study, focusing on the best ways to create an environmental volunteer structure and organize it locally to contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 11 and 15.
