Good Practices in Data Collection for Fairer Cities

The panel “Why Does Data Collection Matter for Inclusive Cities?” will address the importance of working with municipal data for shaping more equitable urban policies. Discussions will address processes of data collection and indicator analysis, as well as the dissemination of urban data, with a focus on gender, race, and other vulnerable groups. In addition to debating the benefits and challenges faced by public administrations in working with data, the panel will present the experience of the Citizenship Observatory, a partnership between UN-Habitat and the Municipality of Juiz de Fora/MG. It will also feature the GeoReDUS platform, an innovative tool that provides open, free, and accessible georeferenced data, bringing together multiple national databases to support urban planning and decision-making. GeoReDUS is a collaboration between the Center for Metropolitan Studies at USP and the partner organizations of ReDUS: the National Front of Mayors (FNP), ORI:ORO, and GIZ Brazil. The event is promoted by the Lideranças Femininas Urbanas [Urban Women Leadership] (LFU) Initiative, a partnership between GIZ Brazil, FNP, and UN-Habitat, aimed at strengthening urban management with women’s leadership at the forefront.
