City Transformation and the Climate Crisis: Rethinking Urban Space

The event “City Transformation and the Climate Crisis: Rethinking Urban Space” is part of the topic Climate Action and the Urban Environment and aims to discuss how cities can address contemporary environmental challenges through new approaches to planning and territorial management. Organized in a roundtable format, the activity will open with a mediation on UN-Habitat guidelines, followed by a lecture and debate with specialists. The discussion will address the impacts of the climate crisis on Brazilian cities, inequalities in access to sustainable urban infrastructure, the relevance of housing and land-use policies in light of environmental changes, and the adaptation of vulnerable territories to extreme climate events. The role of Urban Land Regularization (Reurb) will be emphasized as a tool for mitigating socio-environmental risks, connecting the right to housing with social justice and urban resilience. Instituto Reurb’Delas will also contribute perspectives on technical training and institutional partnerships aimed at building more inclusive, safe, and sustainable cities in the face of the new climate context.
