Mosul Rising Local Leadership and Urban Recovery in a Post-Conflict City

Objective To showcase how local and national government actors in Iraq, supported by international partners, have led inclusive urban recovery efforts in Mosul following widespread conflict and displacement. The session will explore practical strategies for restoring infrastructure, supporting returnees, and rebuilding social cohesion through area-based, locally anchored planning. Proposed Speakers • Deputy Governor of Ninewa Governorate Ali Omer • Head of Office, UN-Habitat Iraq (Muslim) • TBC Format Panel discussion, 60 minutes, with four speakers and a moderator. Each speaker provides a short intervention (7 to 10 minutes), followed by a moderated dialogue on cross-sector collaboration, practical challenges, and lessons learned. The session concludes with audience questions and discussion. Visual materials or a short video can be included to illustrate the transformation of Mosul’s urban landscape.
