CoHabitat Network campaign for community-led housing

To celebrate Urban October, the CoHabitat Network is launching a month long campaign to highlight community-led housing initiatives around the world.

Community-led housing is a process by which inhabitants organize collectively to build cities from the bottom up. Together they plan, finance, build, manage and improve housing, public spaces and neighborhoods. With the right financial, technical, organizational and political support, community-led housing activities result in stronger local communities and in permanently affordable, more sustainable and inclusive urban spaces to meet the needs of the inhabitants and provide solutions to contemporary urban challenges.

From Barcelona to Bangkok, Montevideo to Montreal, citizens are taking housing to new levels with housing cooperatives, community land trusts, cohousing and many other collaborative housing models. We are excited to share these stories with you throughout Urban October month!

We will raise awareness about community-led housing, share good practices, highlight successes and facilitate networking and partnerships via online discussions.

Be prepared to be inspired!
