Beşiktaş Municipality's Directorate of Climate Change and Zero Waste is organizing an Paper Recycling Workshop for children aged 11-12 from public schools in Beşiktaş. The goal of this initiative is to ensure that all students in the district receive environmental awareness and gain hands-on experience in the recycling process. The project, which began this year to coincide with World Cities Day on October 31st as part of Urban October, aims to continue in the coming years as part of Beşiktaş’s commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. Each week, a different school is invited to Beşiktaş Children’s Science Center, where students engage in interactive discussions on topics such as environmental pollution, waste management, the climate change, renewable energy, and sustainability. These sessions aim not only to raise awareness but also to encourage children to take action in their daily lives to protect the environment. In the recycling workshop, students learn how paper waste is repurposed by transforming paper collected from municipal offices into new materials. By participating in every step of the recycling process, from shredding to pressing and drying the paper, students gain a deeper understanding of the importance of reducing waste and protecting the environment.
