Dr. Fatima Maada Bio is the First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone. She advocates for women, girls and gender equality from the grassroot to the United Nations levels. Her flagship campaign “Hands Off Our Girls” has reduced sexual and gender-based violence (SGVB), early marriage, teenage pregnancy, and child trafficking. She has increased awareness on HIV and AIDs, cancer, and access to justice, as well as provided free sanitary pads for school children. In addition, she has championed the adoption of two United Nations resolutions on access to justice for rape victims and on the healing and prevention of child sexual exploitation, abuse and violence. Her passion for improving healthcare motivated her to reconstruct Sierra Leone’s 34 Military Hospital and upgrade it from a 70 to 600-bed hospital with a Centre of Excellence (care for SGBV survivors). She is a member of the Board of Eminent Persons on Zero Waste and the UNAID’s Champion for adolescent girls and young women. Fatima holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism.

Fatima started in the entertainment industry where she played the lead role and clinched Best Actor in several movies including the award-winning film "Mirror Boy".
