Urban Water Management: challenges and possibilities in Teresina/PI

This event aims to initiate a critical dialogue concerning the current socio-environmental impacts related to urban waters, with a specific focus on the city of Teresina, located in the state of Piauí, Brazil. A multidisciplinary team of speakers will provide a brief overview of urban water services and their connection to urban planning. The discussion will shed light on the conceptual advancements in integrated water management within the framework of water-sensitive urbanism, where urban water is viewed as an element for landscape integration, access to treated water, sanitation services, and urban drainage. Furthermore, the event will offer a brief contextualization of urban-environmental planning in Teresina, focusing on watercourse management. It will also address the challenges related to water access and outline some possibilities a paradigm shift toward the incorporation of solutions that enable sustainable water management.
