Hilary Murphy is a Senior Social Affairs Officer in UNECE’s Office of the Executive Secretary and the Senior Gender Advisor for the organisation. Prior to joining UNECE, Hilary was the Deputy Head of UN-Habitat’s Syria programme where she worked to implement UN Habitat’s Urban Recovery Framework in the Syrian context and also spent several years in Iraq with UNDP’s Stabilization Programme, providing strategic support to the rehabilitation of territories impacted by ISIS control. Having begun her UN career with UN-Habitat in Nairobi more than ten years ago, Hilary’s expertise lies in urban recovery and resilience, conflict analysis, risk management and gender equality/social affairs. She holds a BSc in Urban Planning, MSc in Sustainable Development and PG Dip in Security, Conflict, and International Development.
