Celebrating World Habitat Day - Humanizing Cities to Support Well-Being in Yemen

UN-Habitat Yemen Programme, in collaboration with Yemen's Ministry of Public Works and Highways, will organize a one-day event to celebrate Habitat Day. The event serves to discuss how cities in war-torn Yemen can contribute to improving the well-being of Yemenis. Various presentations and discussions will be held around (i) 'humanizing' Yemeni cities, (ii) real estate challenges and HLP rights, (iii) working against desertification, (iv) the improvement of basic services and housing opportunities, and (v) Aden's "Master Plan" - an initiative undertaken in 2004/5 under the World Bank Cities Development Programme for Yemen, but not implemented due to conflict. The event will further be complemented by tailored contributions of students from the University of Aden, as well as an exhibition by the mentioned university at the event location, contributing to the event's thematic core. The event expects high-level presence with Yemeni Prime Minister Dr. Moeen Abdulmalik, Minister of Public Works and Highways Eng. Salem Hareezi, as well as Deputy Minister of Public Works for the Housing and Urban Development Sector Eng. Ali Ahmed Hassan.
