Heritage and the Metropolis

The event will present the result of a comparative analysis of the Metropolitan heritage received from city teams participating in the baseline survey during 2022 as designed by the informal leadership group: Barcelona, Beijing, Buenos Aires, Delhi, Istanbul, Kraków, London, Milan, Moscow, New York, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Seoul, Shanghai and Tel Aviv. The survey collected information from the cities on the current situation, emerging trends, perspectives on the future, key questions about heritage and sustainability, and engagement with relevant Sustainable Development Goals, New Urban Agenda, UNESCO Recommendation on the Historic Urban Landscape and other tools. The approach to metropolitan heritage differs from city to city: institutional heritage/vs/anti-institutional heritage; tangible and intangible; Nature connecting with Culture; metropolitan changes/vs/conservation; values of the metropolitan policies... An innovative approach to revise metropolitan policies and development strategies.
