Joint opening of the Go Blue project office in Mombasa on 25 October with EU, UNEP, UN-Habitat, JKP (Kenyan Coastal Counties), AICS (Italy), GIZ (Germany), Camoes Institute (Portugal) and Expertise France. The project aims at unlocking the potential of land-sea opportunities in coastal urban centres for sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth with employment impact while conserving and sustainably using the coastal and marine environment as well as promoting effective and integrated maritime governance. The total investment by the EU corresponds to EUR 24.75 million. The component implemented by UN-Habitat and UNEP aims at enhancing land-sea planning and management by addressing key socio-economic and environmental challenges while stimulating benefits from the blue economy. The project intends to develop an integrated, ecosystem-based land-sea planning framework for the JKP region and enhancing technical and human capacity for integrated, ecosystem-based land-sea planning and management through capacity-building interventions and the implementation of pilot activities in selected cities and communities of the six coastal counties.
