4th City and Environment: Participation as a component of the right to the city

Claiming the right to the city equates to claiming decision-making power over the way cities are built and rebuilt. Thus, from the perspective of social movements, urban collectives, and municipal councils, the event will discuss paths to PARTICIPATION, an essential element for the effective right to the city. Dr.Juliana Demartini (UNEMAT), will moderate three lectures by Urban Development graduate students at IFMT Várzea Grande, who developed researches on the topic. Jane Letícia will discuss the struggles related to the right to the city in Cuiabá and Várzea Grande. Then, Luma Branquinho and Thaiz Pessoa will present the challenges of institutionalized participation in municipal councils. At the end, Cristina Marafon, Louhanna Acioly and Priscila Wolff will discuss participatory principles in ATHIS, based on examples of urban intervention projects carried out in Brazil.
