Building Climate Smart Cities through Data-Driven, Integrated Planning

With the aim to integrate sustainability strategies into urban planning and management to create a favourable environment for environmentally and financially sound investments in low carbon infrastructure and service delivery, since 2015, UNIDO, UN-Habitat and NIUA have been implementing the “Sustainable Cities: Integrated approach pilot in India” (SCIAP) with funding assistance from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and in close cooperation with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Municipal Corporations of Jaipur, Bhopal, Mysuru, Vijayawada and Guntur, as well as State Governments of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. In this context, the UN-Habitat is organizing a panel discussion to discuss and showcase the lessons learnt from the implementation of SCIAP project. The central idea is to explore how urban planning can bring transformational impact on urban resilience and smart urban development. The roundtable will engage key stakeholders from across the country to share tools and methodologies which promote climate-smart, sustainable, and resilient urban development.
