"Initiatives from Intermediate Cities for Low Carbon Emissions Development"

In celebration of World Cities Day and Urban October, Cuenca—in collaboration with ICLEI and UN-Habitat—is creating a space for reflection and exchange in an effort to accelerate urban action for a carbon-free world. The objective of World Cities Day is to increase consciousness of climate change adaptation and urban resilience; inspire climate actions on the local level by sharing knowledge about effective solutions for resilience in urban systems; and contribute to the implementation of the New Urban Agenda, the Sendai Framework for the Reduction of Disaster Risks and the Paris Climate Change agreement in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). This webinar aims to generate a space for dialogue, participation, and awareness-raising to reduce emissions in the transportation sector through the incorporation of specific plans, programs, and projects, keeping in mind the realities of different intermediate cities and sharing individual success stories. Projects such as the Urban LEDS II Project from the Municipality of Envigado, Colombia will be used as an example of climate compliance and low-carbon urban development. Other participative organizations are invited to share their problems and solutions while opening up a debate in order to generate new ideas for developing climate-resistant and adaptive cities.
