Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS) embarked on development of Non-Motorized Transport (NMT) infrastructure as a way of decongesting the city, promoting walking, and cycling and improving air quality. The Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) partnered with NMS to carry out a Study on “Promoting NMT in Nairobi: A Study on Users, Safety and Infrastructure” The Study generated recommendations to NMS and road authorities on what to consider in future NMT development in Nairobi. As part of efforts towards implementing the recommendations in the Study, CDKN in partnership with NMS, Mombasa, and Kisumu Counties have organized for an NMT Peer Learning Forum on October 6-7, 2021 in Mombasa City. The objectives of the forum are to: i) Encourage the exchange of experiences on NMT improvement between Mombasa, Kisumu, and Nairobi. ii) Undertake technical tours of the NMT improvements in Mombasa. iii) Brainstorm on sustainable approaches of financing NMT infrastructure and inclusive stakeholder engagement iv) Encourage dialogue and collaboration between key road agencies and counties in the improvement of the NMT experience in Kenya’s cities.
