An area-based approach to urban violence prevention in South Africa The Safer Places: Resilient Institutions and Neighbourhoods Together (SPRINT) project is a joint initiative of the South African-German Development Cooperation, implemented through the GIZ-Inclusive Violence and Crime Prevention (VCP) Programme with South African government and civil society partners. The initiative was initially conceptualised in response to the socio-economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic to assist urban communities across the country to build their resilience and to promote collaborative approaches to strengthen protective factors against violence and crime in disadvantaged urban communities. The seminar will promote awareness of the value of evidence-informed and integrated area-based approaches to urban violence prevention and share the main lessons, good practices and products generated by the SPRINT project so far.
